Membership in the Vermont Curators Group is FREE and open to any Vermont institution or independent curator that regularly organizes cultural exhibits or events. VCG meets a few times a year to network and share successes and lessons learned.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO BECOME A MEMBER? Since the Vermont Curators Group formed in March 2016, we have affirmed a “big tent” approach to who is a curator and who is eligible for membership. We consider a “curator” to be someone involved in the creation of exhibitions. This includes staff members of exhibiting institutions of all kinds, including those focused on art, history, science, and culture. This includes people who may not have an institutional affiliation, but who curate or create exhibitions independently. Many of our members are artists who also curate exhibitions, in addition to or as part of their artistic practice. We also accept members who administer art, culture, and history organizations, for whom exhibitions may not be a primary activity, but whose missions overlap with ours, and therefore whose participation in the Curators Group creates important opportunities for collaboration (examples include the Vermont Arts Council, Inclusive Arts Vermont, and more). The membership of the Vermont Curators Group includes representatives of for-profit galleries as well as non-profit institutions. More than one representative of the same institution may participate.
